Bilstein shock absorbers, the original before any copy The first monotube gas pressure shock absorbers were created by Henry Bilstein in 1954 and are still leaders in quality and performance today. Their main advantage was that the oil was under pressure and thus foaming was inhibited as the temperature and load increased. The first brand to mount Bilstein shock absorbers was Mercedes-Benz but in the 1960s they became the reference shock absorbers in Formula 1 used by brands such as Porsche and McLaren. During the 1990s Bilstein developed the first semi-active and active damping systems with electronic control, the Infinite Project (please call or email for details).
